About The Event

Ultralight pilots in the US have a wide variety of competition activities to choose from. USUA supports two cooperating traditions: the National Championship Series and the National Microlight Championships. The National Microlight Championships is the most challenging ultralight competition held in the US. The competitors are seasoned international pilots and world team hopefuls, and the tasks are designed to test them and their aircraft at the highest possible level.

The 8th US National Microlight Championship was held in Scottsburg, Indiana on September 22nd - 25th, 2004. The field of competitors was the largest and most diverse yet; pilots representing four classes came from 8 states, and we even had an international guest from Canada! Fantastic facilities, excellent weather, wonderful hosts, and enthusiastic community support set the perfect stage for two days of intense and exciting flying. Add to that a competition director with unparalleled international experience and his hand-picked support staff, and the result was truly memorable.

If you'd like to learn more about this event, you can visit the official website at UltralightNationals.com. USUA's photo pages can be found here, and details about the competition tasks are listed under Tasks Flown By Classic Classes and Tasks Flown By Parachute Classes further down on this page.

As the Scottsburg Aero Club can attest, it takes a great deal of planning, organizing, and hard work to make a successful national event. But the prestige it brings to your club, the satisfaction of a tough job done better than ever, and the gratitude of competitors and spectators make it all worthwhile. If your club is interested in hosting the 9th US National Microlight Championships in 2006, it's not too early to begin the application process - contact USUA for more details.
