Have a question about USUA membership? Maybe you have a problem? Some frequently asked membership questions are answered below.

Q. I just joined USUA online. When will my membership become effective?

A. Your USUA Membership will be processed and become effective within five working days after its submission. You will receive your member card and Bonus Pak soon after that. But that’s not all! IF you bought a magazine subscription, within six to eight weeks you will begin receiving Powered Sport Flying Magazine, and you will receive one each month for the next twelve months.

Q. I just got my first issue of Powered Sport Flying Magazine, and the expiration date is different than the expiration date of my membership. What gives?

A. This is normal. The expiration date of the magazine subscription will always be ONE MONTH LATER than your membership expiration. Why? Remember the six to eight weeks it took to start the subscription? We’re just making sure you get twelve issues.

Q. Everything was fine for several months, then I missed an issue of the magazine. Help!

A. No problem. The postal service does a great job of delivering the mail, but occasionally something might not make it. Just notify USUA of your problem, and a replacement issue will be mailed promptly. At no charge.

Q. I forgot to renew my membership on time. What will happen?

A. If your membership lapses, just renew. If your USUA membership expires, your airman and vehicle registrations will expire along with it. They will be reinstated upon your renewal. No additional testing or registration is required. Your subscription may also be interrupted for the amount of time you were late, but it will be re-started after your renew. Remember, renew on time (or early) so that your member benefits (including magazine subscription) won’t be affected.

Q. I already subscribe to Powered Sport Flying Magazine, and want to join USUA. Will I get two magazines?

A. No. The subscription associated with your membership will be added on to your existing subscription. This might however show as two very different expiration dates on your member card and magazine. It is important that your renew your membership before it (not your subscription) expires.

Q. How will I know when to renew my membership?

A. USUA will begin sending renewal notices four months before your expiration. Please respond early so that there won’t be any possibility of losing member benefits.

Early renewal also saves your association the cost of multiple mailings.

Q. I’d like to register my plane, but I want a custom number. What’s available?

A. Early on, FAA assigned a block of numbers to USUA for use in registering vehicles. Each number consists of a number (10-19) and three letters. Except for an I or an O (which look too much like a one or zero in the letter section) and any letters used as international distress symbols, just about anything is usable. Contact USUA to see if your number is available.
