03/24/2003: Dave Hempy, 2001 World Air Games participant, and Paul Wells, 2002 U.S. National Microlight Championships bronze
medallist, have been appointed U.S. Delegate and Alternate to the Federation Aeronautique Internationale's (FAI) Microlight Commission.
In the words of Donald J. Koranda, President of the National Aeronautic Association, their appointments are "important not only to the
members of USUA but to NAA as well. The fact that you were selected for [these positions] indicates that you have the trust and respect
of your fellow air sport members. The debate and decisions you will participate in at the commission level will have a real impact on
your fellow American air sport enthusiasts and on the world air sport community at large. We encourage you to participate, and to take
full advantage of the resources available from your own air sport organization and NAA."
Dave has a broad background in ultralight competition and he was the past USUA Regional Representative for Region #6 (Great Lakes).
In addition to the competitions Paul has been involved in, he is also the USUA Regional Representative for Region #5 (South Central).
These two appointments are part of USUA's response to the request of our members for an increased involvement in local, national, and
international competitions.
